How to Get Your Home Ready for the Summer Season

The summer season is often when most people spend time on their property entertaining and planning fun activities with family members. It’s important that the home is functional and is in good condition to ensure that it’s a comfortable place to visit for your guests. When you want to prepare your home for the warmer months of the year, there are a few important steps to take.

Apply a Cool Roof Coat

Applying a cool roof coat to your roofing materials will allow the UV rays to reflect off of the tiles or shingles instead of penetrating into the building. You can create a cooler interior setting by applying a coat of the product, which can also prevent the materials from becoming damaged in the middle of a heat wave. Updating the insulation in the attic or other areas of the home will also keep your energy costs low throughout the season.

Prep the Windows

The windows in your home should be chaulked to prevent air from escaping from the inside of the building. You can also clean dirt or grime off of the windows by using a mixture of hot water, ammonia, and vinegar. Wash the windows on cloudy days to prevent the solution from drying too quickly.

Redo the Driveway

The driveway can become cracked and can have potholes that form due to harsh weather conditions during the winter season. Redo the driveway by sweeping away debris and dirt that has accumulated. You can patch the cracks that have formed with asphalt or concrete sealer, which will improve the quality of the driveway.

Clean the Gutters

Clean your gutters out to remove debris and leaves that have accumulated, which can become an eyesore and will cause water to become backed up onto the roof. Failing to clean the rain gutters will also attract termites to the building due to water that can sit for too long.

Repair the Siding

Improve the quality of your building by repairing the siding of the home. Check for any rot that has developed and touch up areas where the paint has become chipped. You can also clean the siding by using a nylon scrub brush and all-purpose cleaner to remove mold or dirt that is present. Cleaning and repairing the siding will brighten up the color of the home and can allow it to look newer. Caring for it will also preserve the siding and prevent it from deteriorating throughout the year.

Stain Your Deck

Staining your deck is essential to keep it looking new when you begin to spend more time barbecuing and entertaining outdoors. Begin by power washing the wood and using a deck-cleaning solution before staining it.
